Job Title: Data Entry Specialist – TEMPORARY
Division: Regulatory and Environmental Affairs

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Note: This position is not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Nature of Work:
Under direct supervision of the Produce Safety Programs Manager, the Data Entry Specialist will be responsible for typing and routine, repetitive, clerical work to fulfill the inventory requirements of the FDA Produce Safety Cooperative Agreement Program (CAP) grant agreement.

Examples of Work:
  • Type data into master database.
  • Scan and research missing and incorrect data.
  • Maintain essential records.
  • Visually scan source documents for specific information to properly key data.
  • Verify data that has been entered by sight checking the screen and correct any errors.
  • Detect hardware malfunctions and notify supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Office environment; sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • General knowledge of business/office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • General knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and mathematics.
  • Excellent typing skills.· Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people with various functions and levels of authority in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Currently pursuing a degree in Agriculture or Business Administration preferred.
Experience: One year of part-time or full-time paid work experience providing administrative support preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
