Job Title: Data Verification Specialist – TEMPORARY
Division: Regulatory and Environmental Affairs

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.

Nature of Work:
Under the direct supervision of the Produce Safety Programs Manager, the Data Verification Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the inventory and verification requirements of the FDA Produce Safety CAP grant agreement.

Examples of Work:
  • Visually scan source documents for specific information to properly key data.
  • Enter data into the master database.
  • Verify that data that has been entered by sight checking the screen and correcting any errors.
  • Scan, research and recommend resolution of missing and incorrect data.
  • Walk growers through a decision tree to establish program eligibility.
  • Record exemption and qualified exemption status data sheets.
  • Maintain essential records as necessary to meet grant requirements.
  • Detect hardware malfunctions and notify supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Office environment; sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 25 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • General knowledge of business/office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • General knowledge of software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Sound knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and mathematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of people with various functions and levels of authority in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and exercise sound judgment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Currently pursuing a high school diploma or college degree in Agriculture or Business Administration preferred.
Experience: Part-time or full-time experience in a related field preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
