Job Title: Custodian (EVENING SHIFT)
Division: Administrative Services
Headquarters: Guthrie Agricultural Center, Charleston, WV
Reports To: Custodian Supervisor
Supervisory Responsibility: None
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Nature of Work:

Under general supervision,  the full-time Custodian provides general upkeep, sanitation, and maintenance of building facilities and grounds.

Examples of Work:

  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day including taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpet.
  • Clean desks and furniture.
  • Wash and sanitize all restroom areas and surfaces.
  • Wash and sanitize any kitchen or common-use areas.
  • Wash and polish windows.
  • Restock disposables (e.g. soap, paper products, etc.).
  • Log and communicate any maintenance needs that may need to be addressed by day shift staff.
  • Maintain outer premises including watering plants, mowing lawns, and cleaning entrances.
  • Secure facilities after hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting alarms.
  • Undertake seasonal custodial duties including snow removal, treating walkways, and raking leaves.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Stand and walk for long durations and use hands to clean. Reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, and lift/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally climb and work from ladders while cleaning or replacing light bulbs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures when disposing of waste.
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long durations and lift 100 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, kneel, and crawl as necessary by assignment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

One-year full time experience as Custodian.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
