Position Description

Job Title: Equipment Operator

Division: Executive

Headquarters: Food Distribution Warehouse, Fairplain, WV

Reports To: Office Assistant

Supervisory Responsibility: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

 

Nature of Work:

Pulls orders from inventory commodities identified on load sheets and loads them on truck for distribution.

Examples of Work:

  • Receives ‘load sheets’ to facilitate pulling inventory for delivery.
  • Loads and unloads trucks/trailers using forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Ensures correct quantity of commodities are loaded onto trucks for deliveries.
  • Verifies quantities of commodities for shipments received.
  • Arranges and rotates stock in warehouse to ensure the “first in, first out” principle is followed.
  • Performs general maintenance of warehouse equipment and facility.
  • Shares responsibilities with other staff for maintaining the cleanliness of work area which includes the warehouse and freezers, and common areas including the men’s restrooms as well as the outdoor areas of the facility.
  • Operates light vehicles such as pick-up truck or van as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

General warehouse setting: bending, stooping, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, operation loading equipment, storing and retrieving food from freezers, and working hours outside the normal schedule if needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and implement an inventory pull sheet.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to keep accurate account of commodity shipments received and pulled from inventory for deliveries.
  • Ability to safely load trucks to limit damaged products and ensure driver safety.
  • Skilled in fork-life operation and general maintenance.
  • Knowledge of general warehouse principles; i.e. stock rotation, and first in/first out.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or GED equivalent

Experience:

Some warehouse or relevant work experience preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
