Job Title:  Lab Technician - TEMPORARY

Hourly Rate:  $11.00 per hour

Nature of Work:
Temporary position to work from Mid-May through September 2020 to assist with the Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS) Program.

Examples of Work:

• Sort and screen target insect pest samples from agricultural commodity surveys conducted in the State.
• Training will be provided.
• Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
General laboratory setting; standing, bending, stooping, sitting, walking.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to read, comprehend and implement instructions given.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Skilled in attention to detail.
• Some knowledge of entomology.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Enrolled in a college program or equivalent with a major in natural sciences preferred. Some Entomology, Biology, Zoology, Agriculture, Horticulture, or related education preferred.

Additional Requirements:

• Valid Driver’s License is required.
• Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
• Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
• Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
