Job Title:                TEMPORARY SEASONAL - VARIOUS HOSPITALITY POSITIONS

NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.

Nature of Work: Under direct supervision, these positions will be responsible for providing basic support and/or participating in various areas of technical functionality within the department. The duties of these positions will vary widely depending on area of assignment, such as housekeeping, maintenance or dining  hall. 

Examples of Work - Housekeeping 
  • Dusts chairs, tables and other furniture or equipment.
  • Washes windows, walls and woodwork.
  • Sweeps, mops, waxes, and buffs floors.
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse.
  • Keeps bathrooms clean and supplied with linens, toiletries and toilet tissue.
  • Shakes out bed linens and blankets; replaces linens; makes beds.
Examples of Work – Maintenance
  • Gather and dispose of trash and waste materials.
  • May perform routine grounds work such as mowing and trimming, and picking up trash.
  • Perform general maintenance
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment and buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Examples of Work - Food Service 
  • Assist with set-up, service, and clean-up of food production.
  • Assist with all aspects of clean-up of the kitchen and dining hall. 
  • Assist with intake of stock.
  • Other duties as assigned 
Possible Working Conditions (Varies with position):
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time; frequently bend, squat, reach above shoulder level, push, pull and handle objects and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. May climb and work from ladders while cleaning, may work outdoors and be exposed to inclement weather, may work with hot materials and sharp objects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Varies with position):
  • Ability to learn and adapt to Department rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Good verbal  communication skills..
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of basic skills for the specific position applied to. 

Minimum Qualifications (Varies with position):
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 
Experience: One-year of paid employment in housekeeping, maintenance, or food service preferred. 

Additional Requirements:
· Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
· Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
