Job Title:
   General Laborer- Temporary
Division:  Administrative Services – Building & Grounds
Headquarters:  Guthrie Agricultural Center, Charleston WV
Reports To:  Assistant Director, Building and Grounds
Supervisory 
Responsibility:
  None 
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.

Nature of Work: Under direct supervision, these positions will be responsible for providing general labor for routine duties as well as assist with projects.

Examples of Work:Assist with grass mowing and/or run a weedeater.
  • Plant flowers and maintain flower beds.
  • Assist with painting.
  • Assist with general maintenance and repairs of buildings.
  • Wash exterior and clean interior of vehicles; clean equipment or facilities as needed.
Working Conditions:

Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time; frequently bend, squat, reach above shoulder level, push, pull and handle objects and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, unpleasant odors, work outdoors, inclement weather.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of standard safety procedures and practices.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to Department rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Basic computer skills to maintain a timesheet.
  • Ability to work well with others.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Vocational training a plus.

Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
