Note: A Temporary Employee is defined as an employee who works less than one thousand (1000) hours in a calendar year and does not accrue benefits.
Nature of Work:
Temporary Farm Worker is needed for State owned and operated McCausland and Lakin Farms in Mason County, WV. Will perform manual labor to carry out the daily operations of facilities. Worker’s schedule is flexible based on the needs of the operations and weather. Temporary workers may be required to work at both locations.
Examples of Work:

Grind and mix feed for livestock;

Salt, feed, water and bed livestock;

Clean barn and livestock quarters;

Separate calves from cows and tag calves;

Operate equipment such as a tractor, end loader and corn grinder in performing tasks such as hauling hay and manure, plowing and grinding feed;

Operate truck with gooseneck trailer for purpose of livestock hauling;

Plant and harvest crops by hand or using machines such a corn planter, bailer, dump truck and silage blower;

Load and unload trucks of produce, seeds, fertilizer, feed, etc.;

Participate in other activities as assigned.
Working Conditions: Standing, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, driving, walking, and lifting up to 100 lbs. Will function and work in proximity of operating machinery which may present higher than normal noise level. May be required to wear personal protective equipment to mitigate risks. Work is performed in an ever-changing environment i.e., heat, cold, rain, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of the care of livestock;

General knowledge of land cultivation and fertilization practices;

Ability to operate farm machinery, equipment and trucks with trailers;

General knowledge of farm machinery and the maintenance techniques used to care for the equipment;

Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions;
-
Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Training: Education equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: One year of experience in a farming operation.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
