Job Title:  Program Support Specialist Hemp/Kratom - TEMPORARY
Division:  
 Regulatory and Environmental Affairs

Headquarters:  Guthrie Agricultural Complex

Reports To:   Hemp/Kratom Program Manager

Supervisor Responsibility: N/A
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.
 

Nature of Work: Under direct supervision of the Hemp/Kratom Program Manager, this position provides administrative and operational support to the Hemp/Kratom Regulatory Program within the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. This position is temporary and intended to assist with increased program workload and enforcement responsibilities.

 

Examples of Work:

  • Assist program staff with office and field functions.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, or organizing materials related to field operations when needed.
  • Provide basic administrative support including filing, scanning, copying, and data entry.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining records, files, and databases.
  • Help prepare reports, forms, and other documents as directed.
  • Assist with organizing and documenting confiscated or embargoed products when needed.
  • Provide support for special projects, outreach efforts, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive regulatory and enforcement information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

 

Working Conditions:   Sitting, standing, walking, and driving for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to bend, squat, stand, sit, climb, kneel, and ability to list up to 25 pounds as necessary. Responsibilities may include routine office work as well as limited assistance with field-related activities when needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of office administration and program support
  • General knowledge of software including Microsoft programs
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: One year of paid employment in office setting

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
